I'm going to show you step by step how easy it is to map your own controls and create an API for an existing game. This tutorial will also help us teach others that are new at mapping games or just don't understand how it works. Alright, let's get started! We need the game files first so...

1) Download Call of Duty - Black Ops from Amazon.com. You must also download Call of Duty - Black Ops World at War at the same time. (http://www.amazon.com/Call-Duty-World-Trophy-Edition/dp/B002OONID4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1326585324&sr=8-1) Pro Tip: When downloading Call of Duty - Black Ops from Amazon, click on the image, and it will take you to a page where you can add additional downloads to your Cart while continuing your order. This is very important because we now need those files so we can start to map our own controls and create the API for Black Ops .Understand how mapping works: Before we start mapping anything, let's look at how the controllers work in the COD games. First, you need to understand that they are controlled by different files. 1. COD4 works with the file "cg_drawgun.cfg", which is located in "File => User => Configs", in the game's directory. If you open this file, you'll see that it has all of your controls already mapped. An example is shown below:Pro Tip: For my controller, XBOX 360, I had to change the "mouse0" command to "mouse1" because Windows picks up on Button 1 Mouse = Left Trigger... so I switched them so the mouse button would be referenced as Button 0 instead of Button 1... you can do the same with your own controller. 2. CODWorld at War works with "cg_rigged_xbox.cfg", which is located in "File => User => Configs", in the game's directory. If you open this file, you'll see that it has all of your controls already mapped... an example is shown below:3) Since both Black Ops and World at War use a configuration file, we must edit the file to map our own controls correctly. We will start by opening up Black Ops . Click on "Tools => File Manger". A new window should pop-up called "Open Files", so go ahead and click on it.
